Join BFFW for a month full of biking activities during National Bike Month

May is National Bike Month! Of course, any time of year is a good time to leave your car at home and ride a bicycle.

But National Bike Month, celebrated all across the country, is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to give biking a try. Established in 1956, the month is sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists.

If it’s been a while since you’ve ridden or even if this is your first time riding, now is the time to dust off that bike in the garage, air up the tires and pedal your way to work, run errands or for a family bike ride!

If you’ve in the Fort Worth area, here’s what we have in store this month:

Fort Worth Bike Share discounts

  • $2 off 24-hour membership every weekday in May (use promo code 55555)
  • $20 off annual membership (use promo code bzbikemonth)
  • Half-off 24-hour membership on Bike To Work Day (May 19) (use promo code 51917)
Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 19

The city of Fort Worth is partnering with us and other organizations to encourage Fort Worth residents to bike to work.

There will be several “refresher stations” set up around the city that morning to distribute refreshments to all bike commuters. Mayor Betsy Price is also leading a group ride that morning, so come out and join us. The mayor’s ride starts at Magnolia & Lipscomb, departing at 7:45 a.m., and will north to the Intermodal Transportation Center at 1001 Jones St.

If this ride doesn’t go near your workplace, we encourage you to grab a friend or colleague and ride to work together. (Email us at bikefriendlyfw@gmail.com if you need help finding a bike-friendly route to work.)

Refresher stations are located at the following locations:

  • Magnolia Ave. & Lipscomb Street
  • Trinity Park
  • UNT Health Science Center
  • Intermodal Transportation Center

Remember, 24-hour membership for Fort Worth Bike Share is half-price on Bike To Work Day with promo code 51917.

Start small

If your workplace is too far or you find the route too daunting, start small and just ride your bicycle around your neighborhood. Consider joining us May 13 for Family Cycling Club, a family-friendly, slow-paced ride on the Trinity Trails.

Share a photo of your ride with us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter by tagging Bike Friendly Fort Worth and using the hashtag #BikeMonth. See you on the streets!
